Beef Industry Safety Summit

The 15th annual Beef Industry Safety Summit, held Feb. 28-March 2, 2017, in Houston, Texas, brought together more than 200 industry leaders and safety professionals from all sectors of the beef industry to focus on strategies to improve beef safety. One of the event’s highlights was the opening general session, which offered a look back at the evolution of microbiological testing. Breakout sessions focused on a range of topics, including packing and further processing, impacts of the Federal Food Safety Modernization Act (FMSA) and student training and education programs to develop skilled food safety professionals. These sessions allowed all participants to engage in the dynamic discussions the Beef Industry Safety Summit is known for—continuously improving beef’s safety through sound science and industry collaboration.
